Pioneer Women of Fort Lauderdale
The first “Pioneers’ Reunion” was held on April 7, 1958 at the Governors’ Club Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. One-hundred-and-twenty women who helped build Fort Lauderdale enjoyed lunch together at the suggestion of Ford Jeter Brown and Mrs. Richard Hood. The gathering was officially christened Pioneers’ Reunion and was to be held each year on Easter Monday. Members of the Pioneer Women of Fort Lauderdale are descendants of pioneers or women who have resided in Fort Lauderdale for 50 years or more. They honor their ancestors and promote and preserve the community’s history and enjoy sharing and keeping its history relevant in today’s world.
