3 Pit Masters Join Forces To Open Relaunched Boca's Best BBQ & Smokehouse
There's a new barbecue joint in town—well, an expanded and rebranded one, anyway—and it's called Boca's Best BBQ & Smokehouse.
Formerly Sweet Dewey's BBQ, the rebranded restaurant headed by chef Dwayne "Dewey" Hooper has added brothers Scott and Nathan Gibson of Gibson Smokehouse on to the team.
Scott Gibson, who will be the pit master, is a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a cook. He's been barbecuing since childhood, with a particular passion for backyard cooking with charcoal and wood. Brother Nathan Gibson will be a chef and general manager.
After temporarily closing, the barbecue joint has reopened in its expanded space as of Thursday, with a limited menu for the time being. The 80-seat, 1,800-square-foot restaurant on West Glades Road now serves up chef Hooper's Mississippi barbecue and his famous Sweet Dewey's BBQ sauce alongside Carolina-style smoked barbecue.
Hooper recreates family recipes learned from his mother and grandparents. Boca's Best BBQ will offer Mississippi-style specialty wings and ribs, as well as Carolina favorites—from pulled pork to fried catfish—all prepared on the restaurant's custom indoor rotisserie smoker. Kosher-style corned beef pastrami, smoked salmon and fried chicken will also be on the menu.
The full new menu will be available later this month. The restaurant will also still sell Dewey's sauces: original, raspberry BBQ, blueberry BBQ, mustard BBQ and buffalo-style hot sauce.
Boca's Best BBQ offers dine-in, takeout, delivery and catering service. Now serving breakfast, it's open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
