Celebrate Park And Recreation Month In Delray Beach With Free Community Events
July 1, 2015 — Parks play a huge role in our day-to-day lives. They’re our picnic spots, exercise routes, sports venues and possibly even the setting for our fireworks this weekend.
This year, the Park and Recreation Month theme is the 1980s. Check out what's on the agenda for the month:
Break Dance and '80s Costume Contest
July 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the “505” Teen Center and Hobbit Skate Park
The costume contest will start at 2:30 p.m., and participants must be dressed in '80s clothing. The break dancing contest will start at 3 p.m., and contestants will be given one minute to dance. The entire event is free.
Parks and Recreation Night at the Ballpark
July 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Robert P. Miller Park
Watch the Delray Lightning take on the West Palm Beach Sharks. The game is free, and there will be giveaways and prizes between innings.
Music on the Intracoastal
July 11 at 12 p.m. at Veterans Park
Enjoy live reggae music by Army Gideon, featuring Anbesa Tafari. Just don’t forget to bring your blankets and chairs to this free event.
Pickleball Open House and Demonstration/Lessons
July 18 at 1 p.m. at the Delray Beach Community Center
Pickleball is a combination of ping-pong, tennis and badminton. Come out and learn how to play this fun and family-friendly game.
Sports and Splash
July 25 at 9 a.m. at Pompey Park Pool
Join in on aquatic games, including water basketball and underwater hockey, at this family-friendly event. Participants will have to pay the daily park admission fee to attend. Seniors (55 and older) and children (ages 6 – 17) are $2 plus tax, adults are $3 plus tax, and children under 6 are free with adult admission.
