HOW's Inaugural Dine For Veterans Week Will Raise Money For Local Veterans, With Over 25 South Florida Restaurants Participating

For an entire week, locals can give back to a great cause by dining at a variety of Palm Beach and Broward County restaurants.

The first-ever Dine for Veterans Week, taking place Nov. 6 to 11 to coincide with Veterans Day, will benefit the Help Our Wounded (HOW) Foundation, which supports local veterans with traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress. So far, 25 area restaurants have signed up to participate.

The HOW Foundation is a Delray-based charity that works to raise awareness about the medicinal benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and helps raise funds for veterans who need the treatment, which is not typically covered by insurance.

Sarah Crane, HOW’s executive director, said the week-long event was started to benefit veterans, most importantly, but also the local restaurants that have volunteered to give back.

Each restaurant will participate in its own way, donating varying percentages of sales throughout the promotion back to the foundation.

“The restaurants chose how they wanted to be involved,” Crane said. “We wanted them to give creatively and in whichever way worked well for them.”

Participating establishments include Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, Cut 42, Maggiano’s Little Italy, Boca Marriott's Café 5150, and many more.

Casey Ademski, associate director of sales for Boca Raton Marriott, said the hotel is excited to be giving back to a good cause while building awareness about the property's restaurant.

"Our hotel really supports the community in many different ways, but this is our first time as far as I know that we've been able to give back to veterans," Ademski said.

Café 5150 will be offering 10 percent off a special menu, which will include items like the daily flatbread and salad, the All-American Cheeseburger and a Red, White and Blue Salad. Customers will also receive 10 percent off Budweiser and Bud Light American beers.

The Ohrstrom Foundation has also offered to match every dollar raised up to $20,000 at the conclusion of Dine for Veterans Week.

“What I really love about this event is that it exemplifies what 'collective impact' looks like,” Crane said. “The community coming together to dine at their favorite participating restaurants, the restaurants coming together and collectively contributing, and the matching grant from the Ohrstrom Foundation; everyone is coming together and chipping in a little bit to make a remarkable difference in the lives of our local veterans.”
