Scout & Molly’s Delray Beach Boutique Will Have You Feeling Like You’re Shopping In Your Best Friend's Closet

Scout & Molly’s Delray Beach Boutique Will Have You Feeling Like You’re Shopping In Your Best Friend's Closet

Be the person—and shopper—your dog thinks you are at Delray Beach’s Scout & Molly’s boutique.

A bowl of cool water and a basket of doggie treats invites pets to pull their owners inside Scout & Molly’s boutique, which joined the Shoppes at Addison Place in Delray Beach this July. That’s not to say, however, that shoppers won’t wander in on their own. The vibrant clothing, organized neatly by color, and the variety of local and national brands, like Olive + Oak and BCBG, will tug passersby in as well.

The location makes South Florida one of the first to host a Scout & Molly’s, which Lisa Kornstein founded in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2002. Kornstein owns a home in Boca Raton, but it’s mother-daughter-duo Jennifer and Diane Schulman who take credit for the Delray Beach boutique with plans to open a second location once the first is under way.

Who’s Scout and who’s Molly?

Scout and Molly were Kornstein’s labrador retrievers when she opened her first boutique. Now, they greet each customer in a painting that hangs behind every Scout & Molly’s cash register. There are other elements in the store that are standard to every location—the lime green wall, the blue chandelier and the pink beach cruiser parked outside. But the Schulmans also added their own touches—the white fur rugs, the mix-matched mirrors on the walls and the blue zebra chaise lounge chair.

The brands are tailored too

While Scout & Molly’s brings in about 100 different brands like Red Hot, Lush, Betsy Pittard and more, Jennifer Schulman selects each piece that comes to the Delray store. To give off that boutique appeal, the store also only orders three or four of every item, so shoppers are sure they’re buying a rare piece. In addition, Jennifer Schulman retails local designers’ works, like handbags made by Boca Raton’s Jennifer Haley.

The Scout & Molly’s experience

The second time you walk into the Delray Beach location, Diane Schulman will likely greet you by name. It’s the vision Kornstein has for the store. “She wants people to come in and feel like they’re shopping in their best friend’s closet,” Jennifer Schulman says. Friendliness was something that initially drew the Schulmans to the company, but there were also some coincidences that sold them on opening their own franchise location.

It was fate

“If I told you it was kind of meant to happen, it seems silly,” Jennifer Schulman says. “But I’ll explain.” Lisa Kornstein and Jennifer Schulman have a lot in common. For one, they’re both dog lovers. For two, they both own a home in Boca Raton. For three, they were both diagnosed with multiple sclerosis—Schulman in 2007, Kornstein in 2008. “She’s inspired me from the fact of just being able to come out about my MS, to everything that she’s able to do,” Jennifer Schulman says. In September, Kornstein raised nearly $14,000 for the National MS Society through her Scout & Molly’s team during this year’s Bike MS fundraising campaign. Jennifer Schulman is organizing her own team for when the campaign comes to South Florida in March.
