Here's Where You Can Find Both Fries And Caviar In Boca, Plus Everything In Between
Drive along Federal Highway in Boca Raton, and you just might miss the restaurant if you aren’t looking for the sign. Fries to Caviar is nestled among a strip of stores, but you’ll be happy to have stepped inside. The restaurant is the product of chef and co-owner Jimmy Mills’ collaboration with his longtime staff at Jimmy’s Bistro in Delray Beach, and it’s here to stay.
From dimly lit rooms to dark, wooden furniture, there’s a cozy appeal where the menu is as diverse as the restaurant’s name would suggest. Yes, there are fries—paired with a delicious Jimmy’s cheeseburger— and yes, caviar comes plated beautifully, but that’s not all.
The bistro comfortably fits 150 people in the dining rooms, or guests can opt to find a seat for the night at the bar, where they can order specialty cocktails and wine. The hidden gem is the outside patio, perfect for unwinding with friends and soaking up live music near the fire pit during the cooler months.
Most important is the menu where there are food options perfect for the picky to experienced diner.
“[The menu is] kind of all over the place hence the [name] Fries to Caviar—chicken Parmesan, to braised rabbit, to caviar, to Asian dumplings, to fish curry. ... It’s fun that way and gives people a chance to sort of find whatever they want. ... We try to keep a wide array of options,” says Richard Mitchell, a partner with the restaurant.
Start off with the tuna and watermelon sashimi (avocado, cilantro, sesame seeds and Asian glaze) or the homemade pot stickers with pork and shrimp.
The crispy roast half duck prepared with raspberry sweet chile glaze, basmati rice and asparagus is a favorite, alongside the panseared catch of the day caught by local fisherman Clay Brand of Captain Clay and Sons Fish Market in Delray Beach. Snapper, swordfish or mahi mahi are just a few options that are simply prepared and adorned with roasted corn beurre blanc and julienne zucchini.
The real show stopper is the housemade squid ink fettuccine with shrimp, calamari, toasted garlic, fresh herbs and extra virgin olive oil. Unsure if it can get any better, it does when there is an option to order housemade deviled eggs topped with American white sturgeon osetra, hackleback sturgeon, salmon and smoked trout caviar.
